Day 52 of 364 - Sat 9/24: Off-site Work Function

Word of the day:     Paard en Wagen     (Horse and Wagon)

Today, Steve and I were invited to an off-site work function with a group of 12 of his co-workers, plus their families. It was to be a team building event that involved a wagon ride, nature hike, and lunch/dinner. I have to say this was a wonderful event and the weather we had could not have been better. It was absolutely gorgeous weather for a nature walk... not too hot nor too cold!!

We drove about 45mins away to the Covered Wagon Farm to meet up with everyone before loading onto the horse and wagon. I at first thought this was going to be odd, but honestly it was fun. While on the wagon we were provided with small snacks-- sandwiches, homemade pound cake and "beverages". Then we walked thru the forest (National Park De Meinweg) along a trail for about 2hours. One of Steve's co-workers had even gone out earlier that morning to hide flags and treasures along the trail so the kids that came along would have a little more than just walking to do. After the walk we all sat at the Farm's restaurant and enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch. There was TONS of food... soooo yummy!! I wanted to go back for thirds and forths, but didn't want to be rude :)

Over the next few hours it was full of casual conversations, and me getting to know a few ppl. I also spoke with one girl who is in HS and taking English class. Though I didn't see a single problem with her English! Honestly, she and many other ppl we meet here probably speak better than I!  Like many other ppl here in Europe, learning English, or "American" as they would like to call it, is first experienced by watching tv since so many shows are in English. She also mentioned an upcoming test and that talking with me would be great practice for her. (hopefully I helped and didn't make matters worse :) )

It was a long day so we didn't do much that evening, but it was a great time, and nice to meet some of his co-workers... especially putting faces to names, and hearing their recommendations for our time here in the Netherlands.

Till next time...
Sarah
